On April 28, Mr. Tanom Intarakumnerd, Chairman of the Council of Suan Dusit University, Thailand, led a delegation to visit Guangxi university and delivered a special lecture. Xiao Jianzhuang, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Guangxi University Committee and President of the University, met with the delegation, and An Yonghui, Vice President for Academic Affairs, presided over the lecture.

Xiao Jianzhuang reviewed the long history of friendly exchanges between Guangxi University and Suan Dusit University, Thailand, and looked ahead to the prospects for deepening cooperation between the two institutions. He pointed out that Suan Dusit University is one of Guangxi University’s important partner institutions in Thailand. The two universities have a solid foundation and broad prospects for cooperation in such areas as joint student cultivation, the co-establishment of the Confucius Institute of Suan Dusit University at Suphanburi, and scientific research collaboration. He expressed the hope that, based on the existing cooperation platforms, the two sides will continue to expand cooperation in faculty and student exchanges, discipline development, and other fields, so as to jointly promote deeper and more substantive educational exchanges and cooperation between China and Thailand.

Mr. Tanom Intarakumnerd thanked Guangxi University for its long-standing support for Suan Dusit University over the years. He noted that, relying on the jointly established Confucius Institute of Suan Dusit University at Suphanburi, the two universities have carried out twenty years of cooperation and achieved fruitful outcomes, and that this friendship is especially precious. He expressed the hope that, in the era of artificial intelligence, the two universities will further strengthen ties, explore the potential for cooperation in“AI+”programs, and further advance bilateral exchanges and cooperation.

Afterwards, Mr. Tanom Intarakumnerd delivered a special lecture entitled“Foreign Language Teaching in Thailand—Fostering University Talents with Global Awareness through Chinese Language Education as the Core.” Drawing on the development and practice of Chinese language education at Suan Dusit University, he introduced the role of Chinese language education in higher education in Thailand and clarify the requirements that how Chinese language education can help cultivate high-caliber talents with a global vision. He pointed out that international relations focus on cross-border interactions among global actors and the construction of order, which places clear demands on intercultural communication; language teaching should aim to cultivate linguistic competence and cultural awareness, thereby providing essential tools for intercultural communication. Intercultural communication and language teaching complement and reinforce each other, and together they play an important role in enhancing a country’s soft power, while universities serve as the key link connecting the two. He also put forward suggestions such as breaking down disciplinary barriers, and called on universities, teachers, and students to use language as a bridge to promote international intercultural understanding and cooperation.

Officials from Guangxi university’s Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, along with representatives of faculty members and students from the School of Liberal Arts, the School of Foreign Languages, the School of Business Administration, and the School of Economics, totaling nearly 300 people, attended the lecture on site.
