Academic Seminar on “Connecting through Sports, Sharing the Future: New Pathways for China-ASEAN Sports Exchange and Cooperation” Held at Our University

June 27, the academic seminar titled Connecting through Sports, Sharing the Future: New Pathways for China-ASEAN Sports Exchange and Cooperation was held at our university. Liu Xiang, Member of the Party Committee Standing Committee and Vice President of the university, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.

Liu Xiang welcomed the attending guests and introduced the development of Guangxi University. He stated that the School of Physical Education, leveraging its geographic advantage of facing ASEAN, has continued to advance international exchange practices centered on China-ASEAN sports and cultural exchange, achieving a series of scientific research results and remarkable competition performances. He pointed out that the conference aims to explore in-depth cooperation pathways between China and ASEAN countries in sports culture, education, industry, and other fields. It is a concrete action in response to the national Belt and Road Initiative and in service of building a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future, as well as an inherent requirement for promoting high-quality development of regional sports. He expressed hope that this conference would serve as an opportunity to build a long-term communication bridge, deepen practical cooperation with ASEAN universities and research institutions, and continue to contribute the wisdom of Guangxi University and the strength of sports to the high-quality development of regional sports and mutual trust among peoples.

During the keynote speech session, Professor Liu Bo from the Department of Physical Education at Tsinghua University, Professor Zhang Xiaoyi from Beijing Sport University, and Professor Liu Guihai from East China Normal University delivered thematic reports titled "Historical Achievements and Future Development of Sports in Advancing the Belt and Road Initiative," "China-ASEAN Sports Exchange and Cooperation from a Geopolitical Perspective," and "Sports Promoting the China-ASEAN Community with a Shared Future amid Accelerated Evolution of the Once-in-a-Century Transformation: New Spaces, New Pathways, and New Drivers," respectively.

During the roundtable forum, Professor Zhang Aihong from Beijing Sport University, Professor Tang Minghuan from Beibu Gulf University, and Assistant Professor Yu Liping from Guangxi University engaged in an in-depth dialogue on "How Can Hearts Connect? The Historical Heritage, Cultural Sharing, and Practical Pathways of China-ASEAN Sports Exchange," reaching consensus on such aspects as shared historical origins and mutual cultural appreciation, contemporary transformation of traditional symbols, and diversified pathways for practical action.

The conference also hosted two thematic sessions on "China-ASEAN Sports Exchange and Cooperation" and "Inheritance and Development of China-ASEAN Traditional Sports." Multiple experts, scholars, and discipline leaders conducted multi-dimensional analyses and interpretations from perspectives including policy mechanisms, event cooperation, and industrial integration, focusing on hot research topics such as the protection, innovation, and international dissemination of traditional sports. They also shared their latest research progress.

The conference was co-hosted by the School of Physical Education of Guangxi University and the China-ASEAN Research Institute. More than 100 participants attended the conference, including leaders and experts from Tsinghua University, Beijing Sport University, East China Normal University, and other universities and research institutions, as well as principal leaders, discipline leaders, and faculty and student representatives from the School of Physical Education of our university.
